SGI 4D extensions

This version of the program will work with Crystal Eyes stereo and with side-by-side stereo. Silicon Graphics makes a wide range of different models. On Personal Iris machines the colouring model is colour look-up table, on VGX, GTX, Indigo, Indigo/Elan the program uses RGB mode. The mouse handling differs from other workstation versions of the program. By suitable button and keyboard combinations, the mouse can now be used as a trackball to rotate, translate, zoom, clip the picture etc. when the pointer is within the graphics window. The solid options in Sketch are equivalent to the ESV version of the program. Suitable SGI machines (VGX and Indigo Elan models) can also display semi-transparent maps by choosing the relevant map option. Atom identification and screen menu selection is by interrupt picking.

The following special keys are now active when the pointer is within the graphics window:

[F1] -- on/off toggle for Crystal Eyes stereo. [F2] -- on/off toggle for background black window. Because of the way Crystal Eyes stereo works, one gets an awful mess of overlapping windows. By using the black window and a suitably scaled and positioned terminal window, it is possible to prevent overlap. [F3] -- reset stereo parameters. [F5] -- on/off toggle for line quality/type box. SGI machines come in all shapes and forms. This box allows you to change line types. SInce the line type affects how many lines can be drawn, you may want to draw poorer quality lines but get a better rotational feel. [F6] -- on/off toggle for a dial box. This can be used instead of or incombination with real physical dials. The pointer must be positioned within the dial box and the left button depressed; moving the mouse to right or left with the button depressed then increases or decreases the dial value. [F7] -- on/off toggle for mouse trackball. Controls the action of the mouse. [F8] -- on/off toggle for prompt text and menu windows [F10] -- on/off toggle autospin [F12] -- help key.

[Left Arrow / Right Arrow] -- changes stereo separation   [Up Arrow / Down Arrow] -- changes stereo depth.

[Right mouse button] -- rotation control   [Right mouse button + shift] -- x/y translation control [Right mouse button + shift + middle mouse button] -- z-translation [Shift + middle mouse button] -- scale [Left mouse button + middle mouse button] -- slab
